The final Under the Radar community we’re featuring in this three-part series: Under the Radar LA Senior Living Communities You’ll Love is Kingsley Manor in Hollywood. In the series, we take you behind the scenes to explore Los Angeles senior living communities we love – that you may not see pop up on Google.

The final stop on our tour is Kingsley Manor in Hollywood – where you’ll enjoy a historic campus with breathtaking views for a great price, afforded by the community’s non-profit status.

Assisted Living Locators Los Angeles works with a large portfolio of senior living facilities in the Los Angeles area. We are partial to communities with local flair and engaged residents. Kingsley Manor delivers on just that.

What we love about the Kingsley Manor:

1. Historic, amenity-rich campus: Kingsley Manor is an historic Hollywood property opened in 1912 as the “Pacific Old People’s Home.” Character-defining features such as Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, ivy covered buildings, mature shade trees and lush rose gardens differentiate Kingsley from most of its competitors in the LA area. Spanning four acres, the campus features four main buildings: one geared to more independent residents, an assisted living building with a higher caregiver ratio, a grand dining hall and a separate activity center. Apartments range from semi-private studio apartments to one and two bedroom units, many with oversized closets. It resembles a small college campus.

2. Residents and Activities: Residents are diverse, spanning age groups and ethnicities. It also is one of the few communities actively supporting the elder LGBTQ population in Los Angeles. The residents are sophisticated and active, many retired from arts and entertainment fields, academia and other intellectually geared professions.

Most activities are resident-driven, meaning the residents initiate activities and often, even lead them. There’s a writing group, a political discussion group, play readings, a wide variety of outings, yoga and tai chi. A community newsletter is written, produced and distributed by the community’s occupants.

3. Food: While the cost of living at Kingsley Manor is on the lower end, the food is definitely way above average. In fact, due to their new, young chef, we think it competes with most of the upscale senior living facilities in Los Angeles. At lunch and dinner, there is a full restaurant style menu with standard items, daily specials and an additional chef creation. Take a look at our video to see some of the chef’s appetizing creations.

4. Cost: As of this writing in October of 2024, Kingsley Manor is one of the best values in all of Los Angeles. Studios run in the $4k/month range with oversized one-bedroom apartments in the mid $5,000’s. Not everyone will be eligible for Kingsley. A person needs to financially qualify to move-in due to their non-profit status. This is something that is better explained one on one.

No one community is right for everybody. That’s where Assisted Living Locators come in. We’ll help you evaluate whether Kingsley Manor is appropriate for your loved one. We’ll review your loved one’s care requirements, interests, budget and other factors to determine whether this, or one of the many other properties in our portfolio, is the best fit for him/her. We offer this service at no charge to our clients.
