Maintaining those connections can provide meaningful comfort during a major life transition. Whether it’s access to chametz-free options during Passover or a community that accommodates Shabbat observance, Los Angeles offers several assisted living options that support Jewish traditions.

While fully kosher senior communities were once more common in LA, today culturally Jewish communities are more prevalent. These facilities support Jewish residents through thoughtful meal options, holiday celebrations, and community programming that helps seniors stay connected to their heritage.

Los Angeles Jewish Home, Reseda

The residential buildings serve seniors who are relatively independent, mobile, and cognitively intact, offering both private and shared rooms. Seniors who require a higher level of medical support or a secured memory care environment are cared for in one of the Jewish Home’s skilled nursing facilities on campus.

The organization also operates an upscale continuing care retirement community (CCRCs): Fountainview at Eisenberg Village Fountain view at Eisenberg provides a full continuum of care—from independent living to assisted living and skilled nursing—allowing residents to age in place. Residents enter through a “buy-in” model that includes a one-time entrance fee along with monthly fees that vary depending on the size and type of residence.

They have shabbat service every Friday afternoon in their own Synagogue.

Culturally Jewish Communities in Los Angeles

Many senior living communities across Los Angeles, from Santa Monica and Beverly Hills to Encino and Studio City, host Shabbat services and celebrate Jewish holidays. Whether you choose a community like Belmont Village Senior Living, Sunrise Senior Living, or Brookdale Senior Living, residents can often find a welcoming Jewish community and a new circle of mishpocha.

Some communities have a particularly strong Jewish cultural presence, including The Variel of Woodland Hills, Atria Tarzana, Brookdale Gardens of Tarzana, Belmont Village Senior Living Encino, and Oakmont of Beverly Hills. Shabbat gatherings are common, and menus often include familiar favorites like matzo ball soup on Fridays and bagels and lox at breakfast. Jewish holidays are widely observed, often with celebrations that welcome family members. Some communities also offer enrichment classes on topics such as Torah study, Jewish history, and Jewish culture.

While strictly kosher board-and-care homes are rare in Los Angeles, several are owned and operated by observant Jewish families. These homes typically follow kosher-style practices—such as separating meat and dairy and avoiding pork or shellfish—even if the food itself is not formally kosher-certified. In some cases, proprietors may bring kosher food from home for a resident, though this is uncommon. Families sometimes supplement meals by bringing in food from kosher restaurants in the Pico–Robertson neighborhood.

Choosing the right community involves more than simply calling properties on a list. Each residence has its own care specialties, resident demographics, pricing structure, and move-in requirements. Understanding contract terms, identifying potential flexibility in pricing, and coordinating the logistics of a transition can quickly become complex. Just as you rely on professionals like accountants, attorneys, or doctors, working with a senior living advisor can make the process far easier. As local experts in senior care, our guidance is always free for families.

Of Assisted Living Locators LA’s work, Rabbi Steve Leder of Wilshire Blvd. Temple said,

“I want to thank you for the incredible care you provided to my family when we had only two days to find the right place for my father-in-law before he was released from the hospital. You calmed us down and went to work. I cannot overstate the sense of relief we had knowing you were in our corner and using all of your knowledge and connections to rescue my father-in-law from a potentially desperate situation. You are the best of the best. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”
